Let me begin by saying I must be the last person on Earth to try this foundation. I've had my eye on it for quite some time, but for some reason I never actually bought it...until last week!
Does anyone else get really excited about trying out a new foundation? I mean, to the point where you almost want to redo your whole face makeup, just to give it a go.
Well, that was me. I couldn't wait to do my makeup the next morning!
Scroll down for a before/after shot!
I began by moisturising and priming my face like I would normally do, and I also set the foundation like I normally would after it was applied, so to get a better idea of how it would last throughout the day. I chose the combination/oily formula.
I used a damp Real Techniques buffing brush to apply the foundation. I started out with a small amount, then added more to see how buildable the coverage was. I found that one layer gave a really nice, natural look, but you could easily add more and increase the coverage like I did. It applied evenly and was easy to blend.
Below is the foundation applied alone, which has a slightly dewy finish. If you have oily skin you might not want to wear this alone, I would recommend using a face powder to set.
I added a small amount of MAC Studio Finish concealer around the eye area to brighten, and as I mentioned, I set the foundation like I normally would. I used MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in light to set the concealed area and Rimmel Stay Matte Translucent Powder to set other areas of my face.
I also added Nars Laguna bronzer and Orgasm blush to my cheeks, and NYX Round Lipgloss in Whipped on the lips. Since the first use of the foundation, I have noticed you can't apply blush/bronzer straight away as it will move the foundation underneath. Instead, give it a few minutes to dry/set. It's not something that really alters my opinion on the foundation, but definitely something to note.
Below is the before and after!
I haven't tested the 24hr claim, however I wore this makeup for at least 14 hours that day and it held up really well. I don't recall any fading or patchiness, and there was minimal oil build up, so I believe you could easily get a longer wear time.
The packaging is great, nothing mind-blowing just nice and simple but I LOVE that it comes with a pump.
The foundation retails for $34.95 at Priceline here in Aus, however I purchased it on sale for $20.95. I really love the foundation but would prefer to wait for it to be on sale, rather than spending $35 on a "drugstore" foundation.
In conclusion, Revlon Colorstay Foundation is a great natural looking, yet buildable foundation that looks beautiful in photo's and lasts really well throughout the day. It's also very easy to apply and blend, so it should be great for beginners and pro's alike.
So, would I buy it again? Definitely.
Thanks for stopping by, I hope this was helpful!
